Network Details
The NorMAN network interconnects the Universities of Newcastle upon Tyne, Northumbria, Sunderland, Durham and Teesside in the North East of England. In addition to these University sites, the network also connects a number of Further Education and 6th Form Colleges in the region and other sites as requested by JANET(UK) under the JANET Partner Agreement. NorMAN is connected to the JANET backbone at regional entry points determined by JANET(UK) after consultation with the Regional Network Operator.
Although most of the NorMAN network is provided using managed data network services supplied by licensed telecommunications operators, NorMAN includes dark fibre services on Tyneside: between Newcastle and Northumbria Universities (in self-provided ducts); and between Newcastle University, Northumbria University Coach Lane Campus, Freeman Hospital and Henderson Hall along the Tyneside Metro and certain self-provision ducts.
